Just Hang It Up is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending distracted driving. It is comprised of 9-12th graders from all over the Chicago metropolitan area. Using their portable distracted driving simulators, they teach students and adults the dangers of distracted driving and propose the challenge, “Can you survive if you text and drive?”
Just Hang It Up brings driving simulators to approximately 50 events per year. They present to schools, church groups, community events, libraries, medical centers and drivers’ educational facilities.
There is no charge for this service, as the students receive community service hours for their participation.
The group is a 501(c)(3) organization and accepts “tax free donations”. Click to donate.
Just Hang It Up is the brainchild of two community service-minded entrepreneurs who want to give back to society in a large scale way.
Dave Brottman M.D., a pediatrician, was frustrated with the staggering statistics on adolescent cell phone use while driving. Brian Wright, a marketing executive, was impacted by two major car accidents, occurring almost a year to the date of each other, caused by distracted drivers.
Together, they created an easy, cost effective way to promote awareness and decrease distracted driving with the Just Hang It Up hang tag.
Since September of 2013, Dr. Brottman has distributed these tags in his office with amazing results.
“The response from my patient families has been amazing. Parents are sharing their stories about how effective the tags are and kids are telling their parents to Just Hang It Up. I love it.”, said Brottman.
“We live in a world where we are constantly multitasking, which unfortunately includes people using their cell phones while driving”, said Brian who has been a victim of distracted drivers twice.
